The modern methods of diagnosis and treatment have been incorporated the Ayurvedic system to expand the horizons of its application to the challenges against new diseases which advanced the human race. Ayurveda is not only a medical system that had evolved several thousand years back, but it is a medical system for complete development of human being.

The fundamental principles of Ayurveda: the Agni –fire it is the driving force. Pancha mahabhuta: five basic elements. Tridoshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha - Three winds: regulate the functions of the body. According to Ayurveda three basic elements that is Tridoshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha form the basic structure of a human body. All three are addressing what is necessary and sufficient to live a healthy life. Any imbalance in them can lead to disease and decay.

Vata imbalance: Migraines come as a result of an imbalance in Vata dosha. Symptoms of Vata imbalance are: depression, pain, anxiety and dry skin . The recommended treatment is Brahmi, jatamanshi and triphata. Shiro dhara (hot oil head massage) is also recommended. Kapha imbalance: This condition is characterized by tiredness, vomiting, heaviness, nausea, dull headaches and white phlegm. Respiratory disorders are often associated with these symptoms. The recommended treatment is Tulsi tea, trikatu, Brahmi, exercise, Shiro dhara oil head massage,ginger and pepper.

Cold & Cough: The body should be kept warm, especially the legs, chest, throat and head. Sweating is very useful. Take half teaspoon of ginger juice with half teaspoon of honey three times a day - morning, noon and night. Mix half a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon honey. Dosage: Take several times a day. Drink warm milk with honey at bedtime for relief. For dry cough and stuffy nose try isotonic or salt water nose drops.

In case of dry cough especially at night, peel a piece of fresh ginger. Sprinkle a little salt on it and chew. Take equal amounts of cinnamon, black pepper, ginger powder and cardamom Add sugar and grind to a fine powder. Dosage: Take half a teaspoon twice a day with honey or hot water after meals. Gargling with warm salt water two to three times per day is also beneficial. Soak almonds overnight. Remove skin. Make a paste of almonds with some butter and sugar which is Very useful for dry cough.

Asthma: Drink a glass of carrot juice 1 / 3 of spinach juice three times a day.
Add 30 to 40 basil leaves in a liter of water strain and drink water throughout the day for asthma. Mix garlic juice in hot water and take for asthma relief. Advised: Hot milk with a piece of ginger crushed, Vegetable Soup, Spice teas, Boiled Vegetables, Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed into milk provides relief for cough ,cold and asthma complaints very effectively.
